Assistant Director

Mi Escuelita Spanish Immersion Preschool seeks an Assistant Director to work alongside the Director in leading its preschool and childcare program.  This is a full-time position located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The Assistant Director, under the supervision of the Director, is responsible for providing daily support to ensure a safe environment and the educational quality of the program, in accordance with North Carolina state licensing requirements and alignment of the early childhood programming with Mi Escuelita’s mission and vision. 
 
The Assistant Director will provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to the Director including, but not limited to, stepping into classrooms to assist or fill in for teachers as needed (we anticipate that this will take up about half of your time in any given week); helping to develop curriculums for the students; and working in conjunction with the Director and the Board of Directors to implement policies, priorities, projects, programs and budgets for the school. This person should be available to lead the school in the absence of the Director.

Core Duties

​

  • To assist the Director in the development and execution of an ongoing theme-based educational program and curriculum that contributes to care, growth, and development of the children that attend the facility

  • To oversee the school’s materials management and distribution, including maintaining a current inventory of supplies, collecting material requests and inventories from each Lead Teacher, supervising the proper use of materials in each classroom, and working with all teachers to maintain orderly storage spaces that meet all licensing requirements.

  • To assist the Director in maintaining licensing and documentation requirements, including children and staff files, staff scheduling, center sanitation, and meal service in accordance with all county, state and federal regulations.

  • To act on behalf of the Director when the Director is not present, including but not limited to the maintenance of county, state and federal licensing and documentation requirements, supervision of staff and volunteers, overseeing the health and safety of students, making emergency decisions as necessary, and acting as an authorized proxy to sign all classes of documents and checks.

In addition, the workload includes but is not limited to the following:

​

  • Maintain professional attitudes, a teamwork mindset, and loyalty to the school

  • Build good communications with other staff to create a professional environment

  • Attend pre-service and in-service training as required by the state

  • Attend recommended training, workshops, and conferences that help grow his/her professional development in the field of early childhood and the improvement of early childhood education.

  • Attend training on Spanish immersion educational methods in a majority English country

  • Observe the center’s discipline policy

Experience

  • Infant & Toddler Care (Required)

  • Early Childhood Education: 2 years (Required)

  • Teaching: 2 years (Required)

  • Knowledge of Early Childhood development principles and practices, including creating classroom routines, effective group management, and facilitating smooth transitions

  • Ability to create engaging, interactive, and age-appropriate learning experiences for young children

  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, families, and colleagues

  • An ability to understand staff needs and a willingness to offer practical, meaningful support, including in the classroom when needed

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Associate in Early Childhood Education, or CDA preferred

  • EDU-119 Certification or willing to take the course within the first 6 months of employment
    NC Child Care Administration certified (preferred)

  • Applicant must be a fluent Spanish speaker and a proficient or fluent English speaker. The applicant must also have life experience in Latin American culture, such that the applicant is familiar with the customs, music, food, religious and holiday traditions of a Latin American country. 

  • Applicant must have a minimum of two years experience working in a licensed, childcare center

  • A current CPR and First Aid certificate within 6 months of employment

  • Applicant must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
